NumFOCUS Community Update: Interim Executive Director Announcement
As many of you know, I announced six months ago that I would be stepping aside from my position as Executive Director and beginning a transition process for NumFOCUS.
During this transition period, we’ve accomplished significant milestones, including implementing a new governance model and code of conduct, restructuring our Small Development Grants program, supporting eight community events, and hiring a recruiting firm to find our next Executive Director.
While the search for our new leadership is progressing well, there will be a gap between my departure at the end of this month and the new ED’s start date, projected for early to mid-July. I’m pleased to announce that Jim Weiss, our current Director of Resources and Events, will serve as Interim Executive Director during this transition period.
Having worked closely with Jim for seven and a half years, I’ve witnessed firsthand his organizational skills, deep understanding of the NumFOCUS community, and ability to lead collaboratively. His experience directing our events and managing teams has prepared him well for this interim leadership role. We are grateful for Jim’s willingness to step into this position and for his continued dedication to NumFOCUS.
The organization remains in capable hands during this transition, and I’m confident that Jim and our incredible staff will ensure continuity for our project services and community initiatives.
Thank you for your ongoing support of NumFOCUS. I hope our paths will cross again in the future. I would love to stay connected — please feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.
All the best,
Leah
